Net Insight to Showcase Lossless 4K Video Transport Solution at IBC 2013

Broadcasters can now begin migration to 4K transport over 1GE and 10GE connections

Stockholm, Sweden, September 10, 2013 – Net Insight, a leading provider of efficient and scalable transport solutions for media, IP and broadcast networks, will be demonstrating its solution for lossless 4K Ultra HD video transport at IBC in Amsterdam, from September 13 to 17.

The company will illustrate how broadcasters can begin the migration to 4K Ultra HD transport over commonly available 1GE and 10GE connections using Net Insight’s Nimbra 600 MSR series, and its JPEG2000 modules with built-in intra-stream synchronization. The modules can uniquely run all uncompressed SDI and ASI video formats, ranging from ASI to 3G-SDI, per port configurable.

Today, broadcasters are looking to ramp-up their 4K production, bringing added value and higher quality content to customers, however, live 4K content increases the demand for network capacity to four times 3G-SDI, which is 12 Gbps. This does not fit well with today’s service provider infrastructures based on 1GE and 10GE connections, thus broadcasters are limited to non-linear workflows and file-based distribution, which effectively excludes them from live 4K Ultra HD contribution.

Now, with high-quality JPEG2000 compression, which is the only technical and commercial enabler for live 4K Ultra HD contribution available today, broadcasters can efficiently transport live 4K Ultra HD content over these connections while maintaining image quality and low latency.

At IBC 2007, Net Insight already pioneered and demonstrated the worlds’ first multicast of uncompressed 4K video streams over a public transport network, which was honored with a Best of IBC2007″ award.

Please visit Net Insight at booth 1.B40 to hear about how you can start 4K transport already today. See the demos and speak with executives to learn more about Net Insight’s solutions.

iOS 7: Companies Still Clueless

42.5 percent of IT administrators don’t know the iOS 7 business features

(DENVER/BERLIN, 10 September 2013) A survey conducted by enterprise mobility expert Cortado has found that 42.5 percent of IT directors and administrators remain oblivious to iOS 7’s business features.

Cortado conducted its survey among 1,350 IT directors and administrators, asking them how they assessed the impact of iOS 7 on enterprise mobility, and the results were surprising, with 42.5 percent of those surveyed answering, “I don’t know.”

From the results of Cortado’s survey it is clear that knowledge of iOS 7, an operating system so important to the business sector, is still extremely low and many companies have  a lot of catching up to do.

On the basis of these findings, Cortado has also put together a very useful infographic explaining the “Dos and Don’ts with iOS 7” – with recommendations that should help companies prepare themselves for Apple’s latest iOS.

The graphic can be downloaded free from the Cortado website, and is free for editorial use:www.cortado.com/infographics

Release of the new 7.0 version of the enterprise mobility solution Cortado Corporate Server, supporting all iOS 7 business functions, is set for the end of October.

Fraunhofer IIS to Launch Advanced HDR Camera Technologies at IBC 2013

New camera and camera array to optimize HDR images while enhancing creativity and alleviating costs in the digital cinema workflow

Erlangen, Germany – September 9, 2013 –Fraunhofer IIS, the world’s renowned source for audio and multimedia technologies, today announces its Department of Moving Picture Technologies to unveil new innovative camera and acquisition technologies for high dynamic range video (HDR) at IBC. The Institute is introducing two different ways for HDR imaging: a specialized HDR camera and new camera array to provide brilliant HDR images for the most challenging lighting conditions on set.

The new camera and the HDR camera array are specifically developed to drive the next generation of HDR image acquisition. Both technologies result in an enhanced HDR image requiring less touch-up during postproduction, as well as creative freedom and a streamlined production process that lowers technical production costs.

“Fraunhofer IIS developments in HDR allow digital cinema professionals to leverage the most advanced technologies so they can focus on what they do best, creativity and storytelling,” said Dr. Siegfried Foessel, head of Moving Picture Technologies department at Fraunhofer IIS. “Our most recent developments demonstrate and support the convergence of the production and postproduction processes, helping professionals stay competitive in today’s market.”

Using a special filter mask in front of the sensor, the HDR camera records different exposure intensities with one single shot, which are then combined during processing. In addition, Fraunhofer designed its new camera array to utilize several standard cameras with different neutral density filters. The array of shots is then combined with high-performing rectification algorithms.

Further presenting its expertise in HDR, Fraunhofer Digital Cinema Alliance scientist Dr. Joachim Keinert, chief scientist at IIS, will participate in the IBC session “The advancement in HDR video” on Thursday, September 12 at 11:00 a.m. in the Emerald Room. IBC attendees can also see demonstrations at the Fraunhofer Digital Cinema Alliance booth 8.B80. Fraunhofer’s scientists will be available at the booth for one-on-one conversations.

Fraunhofer IIS and the Department of Moving Picture Technologies are part of the Fraunhofer Digital Cinema Alliance. The Alliance provides a network of deep expertise and intelligence for the development of scalable technologies and international standards that allow customers to stay ahead the market.

Fully-automated Interactive Soccer Experience:
Fraunhofer HHI’s Interactive Soccer Experience now fully-automates player identification and recognition of highlights, such as goals, within a match. Unlike other technologies, which can only deliver semi-automated analysis, no special cameras or sensors are required. Further enhancing the experience, specific camera shots can be identified and presented, permitting ongoing evaluation of the match.

Motion-based Content Analysis from the MediaExplorer Search Engine
Fraunhofer HHI’s MediaExplorer Search Engine now permits the capture of motion-based concepts (e.g. “bike race”) to further improve search accuracy. This innovation eliminates the need for the laborious, and at times inaccurate, assignment of keywords in the postproduction process.

Real-time stereo-to-multiview conversion for 3D playback
Real-time stereo-to-multiview conversion allows playback of 3D Blu-ray content or any other stereoscopic 3D video content on autostereoscopic displays. Costly offline conversion is no longer needed and personal 3D viewing preferences can be adjusted on the fly. Depth estimation, the heart of stereo-to-multiview conversion, is now available as a pure hardwired IP core suited for FPGA and ASIC implementation. An FPGA reference implementation will be available for evaluation at IBC.

IBC attendees can experience demonstrations of these new technologies at the Fraunhofer Digital Cinema Alliance IBC booth 8.B80.

Fraunhofer HHI is part of the Fraunhofer Digital Cinema Alliance. The Alliance provides a network of deep expertise and intelligence for the development of scalable technologies and international standards that allow customers to stay ahead the market.
