Hidden Enterprise Mobility Treasures of iOS 9

Most of the buzz around iOS 9 is on split screens, a smarter Siri and longer battery life. But what does iOS 9 hold for the enterprise? Much more than what Apple has let on……..

A number of new functions in iOS 9 were designed specifically to increase productivity and security on behalf of enterprises and business users. Some of these features will be ready for immediate use, others, coupled with tools from third-party EMM vendors, open the door to new possibilities. These include:

  • Per-App VPN for Apple-VPN clients
  • Extending the native business container
  • Improvement of native app management
  • Enhanced support for enterprise app stores

EMM: Why Everyone is Getting it Wrong

What do you think the top concern for IT pros is? Most studies or surveys say security. It makes sense, considering the security threats personal devices and an increasingly mobile and remote workforce create. But, the industry has forgotten the purpose behind these devices and remote work: productivity.

Today’s mobility solutions focus so heavily on security that productivity is almost nonexistent.

Cortado announced Cortado Corporate Server 7.4 earlier this week to overcomes this.

Unlike any other EMM solution, Cortado provides the best possible security and productivity. New features and capabilities from Cortado that support this include:

  • The only solution to provide completely on-premise internal and external file sharing
  • A new user interface designed with complete focus on the user experience
  • Document push, which assures all employees have the most recent version at their fingertips
  • Expanded VPN capabilities, including always-on and per-app VPN
  • Secure user-authenticated mobile printing
  • Leverage of the latest iOS business innovations, including defining trusted web and e-mail domains for iOS 8 devices

Secure Mobile iOS Printing for the Enterprise

A key aspect of enterprise mobility that is often overlooked is printing. This is often overlooked because it is complex. However, there is an even bigger challenge – mobile printing. Mobile printing in enterprise environments has always been difficult, but there is an added element of complexity when printouts contain sensitive data.

To overcome this challenge, Cortado announced a new print function for enterprise environments this week. The new function, which will be a part of the new Cortado Corporate Server 7.4, will enable iPhone and iPad users to benefit from secure, user-authenticated, mobile printing on any available network printer. As a result, enterprises can save money, increase productivity and guarantee security.

How to Print with iOS from Any Windows Sessions

The fact that iPads and iPhones are widely used amongst mobile workers isn’t new. While so many workers have been and continue to use iOS devices, at the same time, they’re often using Windows. Until now, they were not able to perform one of the most basic and common of tasks – printing with an iOS device from a Windows session.

This week, enterprise mobility leader Cortado unveiled ThinPrint 10.6 to overcome this barrier. ThinPrint is THE solution for everything print related. The newest version includes ThinPrint Mobile Print. It is the first and only solution to enable users to print from iOS devices with every Windows session and any Windows-based virtual desktop, such as Citrix Receiver and VMware Horizon.

This shows that regardless of the OS or the platform, Cortado provides mobile workers and employees the freedom to choose the solution that best fit their needs. Full details on ThinPrint 10.6 are available here.

Cut the Chaos – “Made-for-Business” Apps Made Easy

Earlier this year, Apple and IBM partnered to transform enterprise mobility. By combing IBM’s big data/analytics capabilities with the iPhone and iPad, a new era in “made-for-business” apps arose. But, a key challenge still haunts the industry: usability.

To manage “made-for-business” apps, many companies turn to practices such as app wrapping. This causes complexity not only for the end user, but the administrator. The result is wasted administration time and efforts and even breaches in security from users who abandon the apps to use their own more simple devices and services.

Enterprise mobility leader Cortado overcomes these barriers. With Cortado Corporate Server, “made-for-business” apps can be managed entirely without complex app wrapping. This provides not only the highest possible security, but the best experience for users and admins alike.

What VPN Is Right For You?

With today’s increasingly mobile and remote workforce, enterprises need solutions that provide secure, external access to the corporate network. While Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) as an option have been around for a while, they have had shortcomings for enterprise mobility in the past. However, with Apple’s iOS 8, VPNs may be the way go. This is because iOS 8 eliminates the security and technical issues, enabling the creation of a truly secure business container. The question now is, which VPN is right for your business?

Enterprise mobility leader Cortado created an infographic to help businesses decide which VPN fits their niche. This includes:

  • Standard VPN
  • VPN on Demand
  • Per App VPN
  • Always-on VPN

The infographic was developed shortly after Cortado’s partnership with F5. Through the partnership, Cortado Corporate Server, the ONE solution for all enterprise mobility needs, and F5’s BIG-IP® Access Policy Manager (APM) enable businesses to take full advantage of iOS’ per app VPN.
