Mobile App Helps Hospitality Industry Keep Guests “Connected”

Roughly 90 percent of travelers carry at least one mobile device. Forty percent use three mobile devices or more. Given this, it’s not surprising guests have such high expectations for cellular and Wi-Fi networks in hotels. But these expectations are not easily met.

It’s next to impossible to know how the network is performing in different locations of the hotel. Without this knowledge, hoteliers cannot assess whether or not guests are receiving the connected experience they expect. This week at HITECH in Austin, Mosaik Solutions provided a means to overcome this challenge.

Mosaik added a new feature to Signal Insights, its easy-to-use mobile test and measurement solution. The new “Tap-Test-Go” feature, available for Android, enables hoteliers to upload an image of their floor plan and perform a wireless network connection test anywhere in the building, be it guests’ rooms, conference rooms, lounge areas or even hallways. The app tracks and reports network experience metrics, including signal strength, downlink speed, uplink speed and latency on a single dashboard. With this data at hand, hotels and their network providers can determine where and how to enhance connectivity.

See here for more information on how Mosaik is helping the hospitality industry provide the connected experience guests expect and deserve.

Mobile and Wi-Fi Ecosystem Innovators Partner to Improve Wi-Fi Directory Data

In an era where people are always on the go, individuals rely on their mobile devices to stay connected. Finding the nearest Wi-Fi hotspot is a necessity, but often a challenge. To ensure their customers are satisfied, operators and service providers need reliable data about wireless availability and location.

Last week, Mosaik Solutions announced that they had partnered with BSG in an alliance to support the growing Wi-Fi ecosystem. The alliance’s primary objective is to improve the quality of the global Wi-Fi directory and create a reliable source for the most accurate Wi-Fi location data.

Mosaik and BSG are offering mobile network operators and cable service providers a broad range of technologies that will help enhance user experience, improve confidence in cellular offload and better monetize Wi-Fi networks.

Internet + Television + Expo = INTX

Since NCTA’s move from The Cable Show to INTX, many have been left wondering, what exactly will this year’s show encompass?

As the IoT has taken off recently, there have been more opportunities to integrate apps into the overall cable video experience. As a result, NCTA has shifted the focus of the show to encompass the growing digital landscape throughout the industry as opposed to just cable. This year’s event will bring the two even closer together to cover the latest happenings in OTT, wireless integration and overall operations.

Here are a few things to expect at this year’s show:

  • The show floor, now called INTX marketplace will feature about 300 exhibitors. The area has been “reimagined,” and will feature “boulevards, plazas and circles” at various “intersections.”
  • In addition to keynote discussions among top industry executives, the annual Spring Technical Forum will dive deeper into tech than it has in previous years. The lineup consists of 43 technical papers that will be presented at eight different sessions.
  • NCTA will also sponsor a 24-hour hackathon, INTXHAK, which will challenge developers to create apps from scratch using the latest APIs, tools, data and content from a huge list of today’s leading tech, media and entertainment companies.

News from MWC to Improve Carriers’ Customer Experience

Telecom carriers strive to continually improve their customer experience. To ensure their customers are happy, carriers need to know what their customers’ experience is in real time – whether that’s network availability and performance data or customer service.

Mosaik Solutions has always been committed to helping carriers improve their customer experience. At Mobile World Congress, the company made two announcements to bring even more value to its customers:

  • Mosaik announced a partnership with SightCall to bring WebRTC video collaboration platform to telecom providers to help them transform their customer service.
  • The company also announced a new name for its app-based T&M solution, formerly known as XenSurvey. Under the name Signal Insights, the solution complements traditional T&M options by providing a quick, easy and cost-effective way to evaluate the performance of wireless networks using Android devices.

MWC Infographic: What Does the Global LTE Footprint Look Like?

5G and LTE-related technologies have taken over Mobile World Congress this year as more wireless carriers search for ways to bring faster network speeds to their customers.

This begs the question, while we look at standards for 5G, where are we at with global availability of LTE?

Mosaik Solutions, the leader in telecom business intelligence and visualization services, created an infographic to show us. The image points out some interesting facts:

  • 99.4% of U.S. residents have access to LTE
  • 64% of the world population is predicted to have LTE coverage by 2019
  • In 2014, 113 countries had LTE, up from 2 countries in 2009
