File Sharing – Wanted, But Feared
Cortado survey reveals consumers and business users needs and experiences in file sharing and working with mobile devices
(Denver, November 18, 2014) In August 2014, the enterprise mobility expert Cortado surveyed more than 350 consumers and business users about their needs and experiences in file sharing and working with mobile devices. The complete research note with specific results and graphics can be downloaded at http://corporateserver.cortado.com/en-us/resourcessupport/resourcecenter/researchnotes.aspx.
The results provide interesting information on the extent and use of file sharing, as well as what users want when working with smartphones and tablets.
The survey found that 85 percent of the respondents share files. 37 percent use file sharing only to share between their own devices, 48 percent with other people. For 88 percent, sharing with other people only occurs with a known group of people. But, as much as file sharing is used, the security concerns are enormous.
Other interesting results from the survey include:
– 60 percent of the respondents use their personal device for work too.
– 53 percent of these business users said that their company has no concept for working with mobile devices.
– Business users most wish for file access with viewing of the file, followed by editing the file, printing, and file sharing.
– 65 percent of users, and 72 percent of iOS users, prefer the operating system’s preinstalled email app.
