ThinPrint Provides Optimized Printing Support for New Use Cases with VMware Horizon 6

Cortado’s ThinPrint Engine solution ideal for printing with desktop and RDSH

(Berlin/Denver, August 25, 2014) At the VMworld 2014 conference in San Francisco, Cortado, maker of the leading print solution ThinPrint and longtime OEM partner of VMware, announces complete printing support of VMware Horizon 6. Version 10 of the ThinPrint Engine, which was released this year, adds to the OEM solution with functions like ThinShare for print data compression in all printing paths, and the virtual print driver, ThinPrint Output Gateway for driver-free printing, even in Remote Desktop Session Host (RDSH) environments.

VMware recently released VMware Horizon™ 6 (with View), a complete desktops and application virtualization solution. With Horizon™ 6, VMware now supports the delivery of virtual desktops alongside RDSH (formerly Microsoft Terminal Server) and published applications.

Cortado has been an OEM partner of VMware for six years. ThinPrint Engine 10 supports the VMware Horizon™ 6 release with an optimized print solution that provides printing support for virtual desktops, Remote Desktop Services (RDS) remote apps, software as a service (SaaS) apps and much more.

With ThinPrint Engine, it is possible to keep the virtual desktops and RDS hosted applications, as well as the physical workstations completely free of printer drivers, and to provide end users with an interface for all printers regardless of the manufacturer. This is extremely useful when, for example, virtual desktops/applications are used together with thin clients and local or network printers.

Challenges in virtual environments are often presented by the high volume of data passed across the network when printing. ThinPrint solves this by dramatically compressing print data up to 98 percent. At the same time, printing performance is improved with functions like ThinPrint SpeedCache, support for advanced printing options– including finishing, and font management. The ThinPrint Engine is particularly easy for IT to implement because, it is already partially integrated.

“With Horizon 6, VMware has released a comprehensive solution that addresses new use cases for customers. Cortado has over 15 years of experience in this area — and we know that printing is a requirement for user acceptance and is critical for the success of many desktop and application virtualization projects,” said Thorsten Hesse, product manager ThinPrint at Cortado AG. “As the leading solution in the field of virtual printing with more than 20,000 enterprise customers, we are clearly the best possible complement to VMware Horizon 6.”
